History Of Matchbox - Lesney

Was it Jack Odell's daughter who said that her teacher would not allow any toys at school unless they could fit in the average matchbox ignition sticks. So as the story goes that over the weekend the ex air-force fitter and his buddies got together and shrunk the size of the Steam Road Roller made of brass made and produced one made up of brass for his daughter to take to school on the Monday.

The brand name of Moko has Germany origins derived from the first two letters of Moses Kohnstam christian and surname who traded under the name of J Kohnstam Ltd who imported and exported toys around the world. The Lesney firm was small in comparison to the likes of Dinky but with the help of Richard Kohnstam were able to extend their trade into the export-market around the globe Yes the first toys listed by the Action-man is very correct and the die cast were somewhat larger than the supper king size models that Matchbox produced before folding to pressers of competition and production costs and had to go off shore to survive only to be sold to their competitors. Not all of the toys they produced in those very early days and the elephant was a wind up tin toy.

Yep I wish I still had that one that got away from me. Well I hope that is about right as this is my induction on this blog and hope to enjoy the atmosphere of comradeship in toy collecting which must be a very old hobby as the Egyptians were buried with their toys for their after life.

Note: This was written as a reply to my blog at the Toy Collector site. Thank you.
